After Halloween, Celebrate National Brushing Day!

Did you know that the day after Halloween is the first-ever NATIONAL BRUSH DAY? That's right! There's a new day for us dental professionals to celebrate the importance of brushing your teeth!
Thanks to this great article from Colgate.com, you can learn more and learn how to help your kids the day after the biggest candy-consuming holiday of the year!

"What better time to celebrate the first-ever National Brush Day than the day after Halloween—after you’ve eaten all of your trick-or-treat goodies?

To help make the inaugural National Brush Day on Nov. 1 a success, the Ad Council and the Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives want as many supporters as possible to make a pledge on social media.

National Brush Day highlights the importance in making sure kids brush for 2 minutes, twice a day (http://2min2x.org/), every day of the year.

Brushing your teeth is the cornerstone of any good oral hygiene routine. It’s recommended to brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled brush. The size and shape of your toothbrush should fit your mouth and allow you to reach all areas easily."

Halloween Candy Survival Guide!

Good morning all!

October is in full-swing and Halloween will be here before you know it! As one of kids' favorite holidays every year, this one can be a real headache for both parents and dentists. Sugars and candies are not only bad for your child's health, but especially for their oral health! However we know it's okay to have some every once in awhile and Halloween is too much fun to resist! So, thanks to this article from Mouthhealthy.org we have a few "Halloween Candy Survival Tips" to share with you by talking about how some of the most popular candies can have an impact on  your teeth.

"With Halloween comes ghosts, goblins and goodies—and the sugar in those treats can play some unwanted tricks on your teeth if you’re not careful.

Here’s why: The bacteria in your mouth are probably more excited to eat Halloween candy than you are. When the bacteria eat the sugar and leftover food in your mouth, a weak acid is produced. That acid is what can contribute to cavities.

But don’t hang up your costume just yet. “Halloween is about candy, dressing up and having fun,” says ADA dentist Dr. Ana Paula Ferraz-Dougherty. “It’s OK to eat that candy on Halloween as a splurge as long as you’re brushing twice a day and flossing once a day all year long."

Healthy Habits for Teens

Good afternoon all,

Today's article share is for our teenagers out there! We know that being a teen in today's society isn't always the easiest but one thing that should be easy to do is keep up with your oral health. "Want to avoid cavities? Brushing twice a day with toothpaste, flossing once a day, and limiting sugary snacks and beverages is how you do it. It’s simple but sometimes life gets busy and you might be tempted to skip it. Don’t. A bright smile makes you feel good inside and out. Make sure to see your dentist regularly, too. (Mouth Healthy)"
